Creamy Snickerdoodle Dessert Hummus
Good morning everyone! Today I have another hummus recipe for you all. Hummus is easy to make and super delicious, so I plan to continue to create a ton of different flavors.
I absolutely love hummus. It’s such a quick and easy snack that I rely on every single week, and it’s incredibly simple to make at home. What’s even better is that when you make your own fresh hummus at home, you get to customize it any way you want.
This hummus has a special twist. While I already have a couple recipes on this blog, I don’t have a dessert hummus recipe. I first tried dessert hummus when I was in my junior year of college.
There was a little mom and pop grocery store just a few minute walk away from my apartment, so I shopped there every once in a while when I needed to purchase just a few groceries. The prices were a bit more expensive, but it was super convenient and I liked supporting a small, local business.
One day, I noticed a sign for dessert hummus at the front of the grocery store in the fresh produce section. They had two flavors – snickerdoodle and chocolate brownie.
I was curious, so I picked the package up and read the ingredients. To my surprise, the hummus was actually made out of chickpeas, just like traditional hummus. I was interested to see how they tasted, so I bought both. When I got home, I quickly tried them, and they were absolutely amazing. From then on, I was hooked. I didn’t buy them from the grocery store again because they were too expensive for my budget. However, I did start making my own version at home. And let me tell you, it does not disappoint.
I will say that this recipe isn’t for everyone. Some people just can’t get past the texture or the knowledge that there are, in fact, beans in the dessert. And that’s ok. There are plenty of other desserts on this blog that don’t include beans. But, for all my hummus lovers, this recipe is a must try.
If you have had dessert hummus before and enjoyed it, then you need to make this fresh homemade version. Trust me, you will be savoring every spoonful. So, without further ado, let’s take a look at the ingredients that make up this super tasty treat.
Creamy Snickerdoodle Dessert Hummus – Ingredients
- Canned Chickpeas – Even with dessert hummus, chickpeas are a staple ingredient. You will want to drain and rinse them thoroughly before using them. Some people also like to take the skin off the chickpeas, but I don’t do that, as I find it to be too time consuming. It might give you a slightly smoother texture, so if that is super important to you, then you can take the extra time to do so.
- Dates – Pitted medjool dates help sweeten up this recipe and turn it into a true dessert. After all, without the sweetness, you just have regular old hummus (boring!). So, this ingredient helps add that sweet factor.
- Pure Maple Syrup – I like my dessert hummus with a subtle sweetness, so I use 1 1/2 tablespoons. If you want it a little sweeter, just add a bit more maple syrup. This is the ingredient that you will want to adjust to your taste, so make sure you have a bit more on hand in case you want to add extra sweetness.
- Creamy Peanut Butter – The peanut butter adds creaminess to this recipe, as well as a source of protein and healthy fat. It’s not a super strong flavor, which is good, because we’re going for snickerdoodle hummus, not peanut butter (although that does sound tempting). Either way, it’s an essential ingredient that really elevates this recipe immensely.
- Pure Vanilla Extract – This ingredient is crucial to amplify the flavors in this recipe. Make sure not to omit it, as it is incredibly important.
- Cinnamon – Just like a traditional snickerdoodle cookie, the cinnamon is the key spice for this recipe. The cinnamon adds to the light snickerdoodle flavor that we are going for.
- Almond Milk – The almond milk in this recipe aids with the blending and adds to that creaminess factor. I used unsweetened vanilla almond milk, which worked perfectly!
