Vegan Hummus Recipe With Tahini

Good morning everyone! As you all know, I recently shared one of my favorite simple salad recipes on the blog. It is one of my go-to quick and easy meals for busy workdays, so I eat it on repeat throughout the week.

When I headed to the kitchen to make it the other day, I realized that I was almost out of my store-bought hummus. Fortunately, I had all the ingredients to make my homemade version, which is just as delicious as my favorite premade hummus that I pick up from the grocery store. Since my recipe is super simple and delicious, I figured I should share it with all of you. That way, you guys can make homemade hummus as well :).

So, today I am going to share a super simple hummus recipe with all of you that requires less than ten simple ingredients and almost no prep work. You will need tahini for this recipe, and I know that it can be difficult to find for some. I picked mine up at my local Trader Joe’s grocery store. If you have one near you, I would definitely recommend that you look there for the tahini.

Now, let’s discuss a few quick things to note for this recipe. Then, we will dive into the list of ingredients you will need to make this recipe a smashing success.

How is hummus made?

This question is one of the most commonly asked ones when it comes to making hummus at home. Fortunately, the answer is quite simple. You simply have to blend up a few key ingredients until a smooth and creamy consistency is achieved, and you end up with a super thick, creamy, and flavorful homemade hummus.

The base for most hummus recipes consists of chickpeas and some sort of liquid, such as tahini or olive oil. There are also a few key spices, as well as some water to aid blending. That’s really all there is to it.

Now that we have discussed a few quick things to note, let’s take a look at the list of ingredients you will need to make this homemade hummus with tahini.

Homemade Hummus Recipe – Ingredients

  • Chickpeas – The first ingredient you will need for this recipe is a can of chickpeas. I am sure this ingredient is no surprise. I used a can of chickpeas that had a little bit of salt, but you could also use salt free chickpeas . You will definitely want to drain and rinse them thoroughly before adding them to your blender.
  • Tahini – The second ingredient you will need for this recipe is the tahini. As I mentioned before, I found my jar of tahini at my local Trader Joe’s grocery store. The price wasn’t bad either. I paid about $4 for the jar and I don’t go through it that quickly.
  • Cumin – The next gredient you will need for this homemade hummus recipe is the cumin. The cumin adds flavor and spice to the recipe. A little bit goes a long way.
  • Garlic Powder – The garlic powder is another essential ingredient that you will need for this hummus recipe. It adds delicious garlic flavor to the hummus.
  • Onion Powder – Much like the garlic powder, the onion powder provides the hummus with even more flavor. It is an essential spice that you definitely do not want to omit.
  • Chickpea Liquid – Another igredient you will want for this recipe is some of the liquid from your can of chickpeas. This ingredient helps the hummus ingredients blend together smoothly. It also adds some extra flavor to your hummus.
  • Olive Oil – The olive oil adds richness, flavor, and dimension to this hummus recipe. It also helps all of the hummus ingredients blend together to form a thick, delicious, spreadable consistency.
  • Fresh Lemon Juice – The freshly squeezed lemon juice adds even more flavor and dimension to the hummus.

As you guys can tell, this recipe is extremely easy to make. It’s super thick, flavorful, and perfect to serve up with crackers, carrots, pretzels, etc. You could even customize it to create a new hummus flavor. For example, to make garlic hummus, you can blend some fresh crushed garlic into the mixture. Anyway, that’s it for this recipe. As per usual, I will be back with more content very soon.
