Dill Pickle Hummus Without Tahini

Good morning everyone! The other day, I set out to make a homemade version of one of my newest obsessions from Trader Joe’s – dill pickle hummus. If you are a fan of dill pickle hummus, I definitely recommend grabbing some at your local Trader Joe’s. It has that classic dill pickle flavor and it’s super creamy.

While I do love a good store-bought hummus, I also really enjoy making my own at home. It’s fresher, super easy to make, and usually saves me a little bit of money. That’s why I’m so excited to share my homemade dill pickle hummus recipe with all of you today. It’s thick, creamy, and it tastes so incredibly fresh.

As I mentioned, this dill pickle hummus recipe requires less than ten simple ingredients. It comes together in just minutes, requires no tahini, and it has a nice and thick texture.

So, let’s take a look at some quick things to note for this recipe. Then, we will go through the list of ingredients you will need to make this thick and delicious dill pickle hummus.

How Can You Make Hummus Without Tahini?

While I do love making hummus with tahini, I understand that it can be a quite expensive ingredient. Plus, it is difficult to find and not carried at all grocery stores. That is why I have multiple hummus recipes on my blog, some of which do not require tahini. For this recipe specifically, I used olive oil to add richness and creaminess to the hummus without the use of tahini.

This hummus is definitely not lacking in flavor either thanks to the dill pickles and other key spices. By finding the right balance of liquid ingredients to add in with the garbanzo beans and spices, you can easily make a thick, creamy, and delicious hummus without the use of any tahini. So, if you have trouble finding tahini at your local grocery store, this just might be the hummus recipe for you.

Now that we have covered a few quick things to note for this recipe, let’s take a look at the list of ingredients you’ll need to make this creamy dill pickle hummus.

Creamy Dill Pickle Hummus – Ingredients

  • Garbanzo Beans – The first ingredient you will need for this recipe is a can of garbanzo beans. This ingredient should come as no surprise. After all, you can’t make hummus without the garbanzo beans. You’ll want to drain and rinse them thoroughly before adding them to your food processor or blender.
  • Dill Pickles – The chopped dill pickles are another key ingredient used in this recipe. They add a ton of dill pickle flavor to the hummus. They also give it a slightly green tint. If you love dill pickles as much as I do, you’ll absolutely love the addition of them in this dill pickle hummus.
  • Dill Weed – Dill weed is another ingredient that you will need for this hummus recipe. I think this ingredient pairs especially well with carrots, which makes this hummus the perfect dip to serve up with baby carrots. The dill weed also compliments the dill pickle flavor very nicely.
  • Garlic Powder – The garlic powder is a key spice that adds ample flavor to this dill pickle hummus.
  • Onion Powder – The onion powder is another essential spice that adds a ton of flavor to the hummus.
  • Black Pepper – The black pepper adds a bit more flavor and dimension to this creamy dill pickle hummus recipe.
  • Salt – This ingredient will be added to taste for even more flavor.
  • Water – The water is a key source of liquid used in this hummus recipe to aid with the blending of the chickpeas. It helps the hummus achieve that smooth and creamy consistency we are going for. You will definitely need this ingredient to achieve a smoother hummus texture.
  • Olive Oil – The olive oil is a key fat source used in this recipe for additional richness and creaminess.
