Easy Homemade Guacamole with One Avocado

Good morning everyone! Today’s recipe is incredibly simple, tasty, and quick. It requires less than ten ingredients, and it’s perfect to use in salads, burrito bowls, tacos, and more.

If you love avocados, then this recipe is for you. Avocados are one of my all-time favorite foods. A few of my favorite ways to use them include making avocado toast for a healthy snack, or topping my taco salad bowls off with some avocado for extra richness and flavor.

Since I love avocados, it should come as no surprise that I enjoy guacamole equally as much (sometimes even more). So, today’s recipe is for a simple and delicious homemade guacamole that requires just one ripe avocado. Of course, you could easily double or triple the recipe to serve more people.

What’s great about this recipe is that it comes together in just minutes. It doesn’t have any complicated steps, so it’s perfect to make when you’re short on time and want to whip up something quickly.

Now, let’s go through a few quick things to note for this recipe. Then, we will take a look at the list of ingredients you will need to make this homemade guacamole recipe a smashing success!

How Do You Make Guacamole with Fresh Avocado?

Making guacamole with fresh avocado is actually much easier than you might think. All you have to do is cut your avocado in half lengthwise, remove the large seed, and then scoop out the insides. Then, you simply mash the avocado with a fork (I find it easiest to do so on a plate). Next, you add the mashed avocado to a mixing bowl and mix in all your other ingredients. Finally, you transfer your guacamole over to a serving dish and serve it up with whatever you’d like. It truly is that easy.

Now that we have covered a few quick things to note for this recipe, let’s take a look at the list of ingredients you will need to make this easy homemade guacamole.

Easy Homemade Guacamole – Ingredients

  • Ripe Avocado – This ingredient should come as no surprise. For this recipe, you will need one medium ripe avocado. This is, of course, the most crucial ingredient for the recipe. Make sure you use a nice and ripe avocado for optimal flavor. As a general rule of thumb, I like my avocados to be soft to the touch, but not super squishy. If your avocado is rock hard, then it isn’t ready yet. If your avocado is super squishy, it will likely be brown and mushy on the inside. Try to use one that is perfectly ripe, and the flavor will be perfect.
  • Yellow Onion – The yellow onion adds a ton of flavor and a bit of crunch to your guacamole. You will want to finely chop it before adding it to your avocado mixture.
  • Roma Tomato – This ingredient adds color and flavor to your guacamole. Again, you will want to finely chop this ingredient before adding it to your avocado mixture.
  • Garlic Powder – This is my secret little ingredient that gives the guacamole an extra kick. While you might be tempted to omit this spice, I wouldn’t recommend it. It truly does add flavor to this homemade guacamole recipe, and takes it to a whole new level. So, make sure that you don’t forget it.
  • Fresh Cilantro – The fresh cilantro adds flavor and texture to this delicious homemade guacamole recipe. A little bit goes a long way. Of course, if you don’t like the test of cilantro, you can easily omit this ingredient.
  • Fresh Lime Juice – The fresh lime juice adds the perfect touch of lime flavor to the guacamole. I much prefer fresh lime juice over the bottled kind.
  • Salt – This ingredient will be added to taste to suit your personal preference. It is the final ingredient which ties the whole recipe together.
