Easy Oil Free Baked French Fries

Good morning friends! Today I am sharing a quick and easy snack recipe with all of you – baked French fries! These French fries are so simple to make and they taste delicious. They are a great snack recipe to make and enjoy with some ketchup. They are also perfect to pair with a homemade veggie burger.

Baked French fries are awesome because they turn out flavorful and golden brown, but they require no oil. You also get to skip the frying process. In addition to that, you get to choose how much oil to add to your fries. Or, you can skip the oil completely if desired.

This quick and easy French fry recipe has become a staple for me because it’s insanely easy to make, budget friendly, and tasty. After you chop your potatoes up into matchstick fry shapes, you are pretty much done with the prep work. You simply add the seasonings, optional olive oil (I personally like to add some for flavor), and then bake the fries in the oven at high heat until they are nice and golden brown.

Now, let’s go over a few quick things to note for this recipe. Then, we will take a look at the list of ingredients you will need to make these oil free baked French fries.


Are Baked French Fries Good?

Baked French fries can be made to taste incredibly delicious. It really comes down to choosing the right mix of spices to season your fries with. I personally like to add garlic powder, onion powder, paprika, cumin, salt, and pepper. I find that this blend of spices adds a ton of flavor to the French fries.

Additionally, I like to drizzle a bit of olive oil on top of my fries for extra flavor and richness. This step is optional for this recipe. If you would prefer to make your fries oil free, you can absolutely do so. Another recommendation I have for making baked French fries that are super tasty and flavorful is to bake them at high heat.

Finally, I recommend dipping your fries in either ketchup, mashed avocado, or hummus. The fries pair incredibly well with all three of these options.

A common question that pops up when making French fries at home is how to make them less oily. With the oven baking method, the fries are naturally less oily because they require little (to no) oil. The process for baking fries in the oven is very simple, which is another reason why I love the oven baked method.

Now that we have gone through some quick things to note for this baked French fry recipe, let’s take a look at the list of ingredients you will need to make your French fries.


Easy Oil Free Baked French Fries – Ingredients

  • Potatoes – The potatoes are the first essential ingredient you will need for this recipe. This should come as no surprise, as they serve as the main base ingredient for any French fry recipe.
  • Garlic Powder – The garlic powder adds a ton of flavor to the French fries.
  • Onion Powder – The onion powder also adds ample flavor to these baked French fries.
  • Paprika – The paprika is the third key seasoning used in this French fry recipe.
  • Cumin – The cumin adds some extra spice to the French fries.
  • Salt The salt will be added to taste to give your French fries a lot of additional flavor.
  • Pepper – The pepper is another ingredient that you will add to taste.
  • Olive Oil – The olive oil is an optional ingredient which you can drizzle onto your fries for additional flavor. I have made the fries both ways (with and without oil). I personally like to drizzle a bit of olive oil on the fries before baking them for extra richness and flavor, but you can omit the oil in this recipe if desired.

Ingredients
  

  • 2 large russet potatoes
  • 1 tsp garlic powder
  • 1 tsp onion powder
  • 1 tsp paprika
  • 1/2 tsp cumin
  • salt to taste
  • pepper to taste
  • optional drizzle of olive oil

Instructions
 

  • Preheat the oven to 400° F.
  • Wash the potatoes thoroughly, then cut them into matchstick shapes that are about 3/4 – 1" thick.
  • Add the fries to a large mixing bowl with the garlic powder, onion powder, paprika, cumin, and salt + pepper to taste.
  • Use clean hands to evenly coat the fries in the seasonings.
  • Place the fries in a single layer on a lined or greased baking sheet.
  • Add a drizzle of olive oil on top of the fries if desired.
  • Bake the fries for about 30 minutes, or until golden brown.
