Vegan Peppermint Mocha Frappuccino

Good morning everyone! Today is such an exciting day, because I am sharing my very first coffee recipe EVER on this blog. I know, it’s crazy, because you guys know how much I love my coffee.

I almost always drink 2 – 3 cups per day, and I’m honestly shocked that I didn’t start drinking coffee until I was in the first semester of my freshman year of college.

Growing up, my dad always drank multiple cups of coffee throughout the day. He continues to do so today. My mom has always drank coffee on and off, but recently, she’s been enjoying coffee a lot as well.

While my little sister and mom only really drink cold coffee as of right now, my dad and I prefer hot coffee in the winter for the most part. However, I do like the occasional cold coffee drink, even in the winter, but only if it is a special drink. This vegan peppermint mocha Frappuccino that I am about to share with you all is exactly that.

I created this recipe with the goal of making a thick, creamy, frozen coffee drink that tastes similar to the Frappuccino drinks I used to buy, but with minimal added sugar and absolutely no dairy, of course. This recipe is just way too perfect not to share. Thus, let’s get into the ingredients you will need to make this perfect, vegan, frozen coffee drink.

Vegan Peppermint Mocha Frappuccino – Ingredients

  • Coffee – For this recipe, you will need a peppermint flavored ground coffee. I chose the Starbucks ground peppermint mocha flavored coffee, because it’s one of my absolute favorite flavors to enjoy during the winter time, and it’s limited edition, so I have to drink it while I can! Alternatively, you could probably use regular coffee and add a drop or two of peppermint extract, although I haven’t tried it. Then, you will want to brew it and chill it in the refrigerator so it’s nice and cool when you are ready to use it in the recipe.
  • Frozen Banana – This ingredient adds a ton of natural sweetness and a thick, creamy consistency to the recipe. It is a key ingredient that you need to make this drink successfully. My pro tip is to freeze your banana in chunks. That way, it will blend more quickly and easily with minimal liquid, which will ultimately help your drink stay nice and thick.
  • Vegan Chocolate Protein Powder – This ingredient packs in the chocolate flavor and adds some sweetness. I used the Orgain Simple vegan chocolate protein powder, which I highly recommend. It tastes delicious and the ingredients list is pretty clean and simple.
  • Candy Cane – Ok, need might be a strong word here, but the mini candy cane adds extra sweetness and peppermint flavor. I found one candy cane to be plenty, and I saved part of it to top my Frappuccino with for that aesthetic look.
  • Coco Whip – I occasionally add coco whip to the top of my Frappuccino for even more flavor. This step is optional, but I highly recommend it!

You could even buy the canned vegan whipped cream to get that classic swirl. I didn’t have any, so I just used the coco whip that I already had on hand.

I know that some of you out there are just as obsessed with coffee as I am. While I have never been a huge specialty coffee drinker, I do enjoy coffee in many different forms.

I love this recipe specifically because it is super easy to make, incredibly budget friendly, and very festive for the holiday season. When you buy a blended coffee drink from a coffee shop, it can easily cost $4 – $5 or more, especially when you have to pay extra for the nut milk.

However, when you make your own coffee drink at home, you can avoid all those added costs, save a ton of money, and still enjoy the festive flavors. And much like my obsession with pumpkin spice in the fall, I love to bake peppermint and gingerbread flavored snacks and treats in the winter.

Question of the day: What is your favorite coffee drink or go-to coffee order in the winter time? Do you prefer cold coffee or hot coffee?

Sending happiness & light your way!
-Alyssa 🙂
