Easy Vegan Chocolate Ice Cream

Good morning friends! For today’s recipe, I am sharing a simple and delicious chocolate ice cream recipe. This recipe is unique in that it is vegan, no churn, and made with well under ten ingredients. The ice cream turns out sweet, creamy, and delicious. However, there is no fancy equipment required. Rather than using an ice cream machine, we will be using a food processor to create a creamy ice cream consistency in just minutes.

This vegan chocolate ice cream has quickly become one of my favorite vegan treats. Best of all, it is super easy to customize with any toppings that you’d like. Chocolate chips are a given, but you can also add your favorite chopped nuts, a drizzle of nut butter, a melted chocolate drizzle, or anything else that you’d like.

Plus, the no churn method makes this recipe insanely easy. By using some frozen banana chunks, a mini food processor, and a few other key ingredients, you can create an ultra thick and creamy banana ice cream in just minutes. Now, let’s dive into a few quick things to note for this vegan chocolate ice cream recipe. Then, we will go through the full list of ingredients you will need to make this tasty chocolate treat.

How To Make Homemade Vegan Chocolate Ice Cream

The steps to making homemade, no churn vegan chocolate ice cream are much simpler than you might think. Fortunately, you can make vegan chocolate ice cream using less than ten budget friendly ingredients. For this recipe specifically, we will start with a base of frozen banana chunks. This ingredient is the key to creating a creamy ice cream base without the use of a traditional ice cream maker. In addition to that, you will need some cocoa powder and chocolate chips for that rich chocolate flavor, a source of sweetness, and some non-dairy milk to aid blending.

Once you have all of the key ingredients, you simply have to blend them up in a high speed food processor until a smooth and creamy consistency is achieved. This takes only a few minutes. It is important to use as little liquid as possible in order to achieve the thickest consistency. Also, if you want to make a small batch like I did, a mini food processor is the best appliance to use. If you want to increase the batch size, you can use a regular size food processor. Now that we have covered that, let’s go ahead and take a look at the ingredients you will need for this vegan chocolate banana ice cream recipe.

Vegan Chocolate Banana Ice Cream Recipe – Ingredients

  • Frozen Banana Chunks – The frozen banana chunks are the first key ingredient you will need for this recipe. You will want to freeze them when they are ripe/overripe for optimal sweetness. If the peels are yellow with brown spots, then they are ready to peel, chop up, and freeze.
  • Cocoa Powder – The cocoa powder is another essential ingredient you will need for this recipe. It provides the ice cream with a rich chocolate flavor.
  • Pure Maple Syrup – The pure maple syrup is an essential ingredient that adds sweetness to this vegan chocolate ice cream recipe.
  • Non-Dairy Milk – A tiny splash of nut milk is necessary to aid blending for this creamy vegan ice cream. I used unsweetened vanilla almond milk, but you can use whichever non-dairy milk you have on hand or prefer.
  • Chocolate Chips – The chocolate chips add sweetness, flavor, and a nice crunch to this vegan ice cream recipe. I used mini semi-sweet chocolate chips, but you can use whichever vegan chocolate chips you enjoy most.
  • Optional Toppings – There are a ton of other optional toppings you can add to your vegan ice cream. I love to top my ice cream with peanuts, a drizzle of nut butter, chopped walnuts, sprinkles, etc. The possibilities are endless, so don’t be afraid to get creative with the toppings. On the day I photographed this photos, I used mini-chocolate chips and peanuts for my ice cream toppings.
