Microwave Blueberry Vanilla Protein Oatmeal

Good morning friends! As you guys know, I absolutely love my oatmeal bowls. Whether I’m making overnight oats, quick oats in the microwave, stovetop oats, baked oats, or any other variety, I love to experiment with a wide array of flavors. I am constantly creating new combinations by utilizing a number of different fruits and other add-ins.

Today, I wanted to share a simple yet delicious recipe for a creamy vanilla protein oatmeal recipe topped with blueberries and almond butter. In this recipe, I will be using one of my favorite vegan protein powders – Orgain Simple vanilla protein powder. This is one of my favorite vegan protein powders that I have tried so far in terms of texture and flavor. I also love the chocolate and chocolate peanut butter flavors that Orgain makes.

The vegan protein powder in this recipe gives the oatmeal a thick and creamy texture. It also boosts the overall protein content. It is such an easy way to sneak extra protein into your breakfast. So, if you’re looking to make a delicious, vegan, creamy protein oatmeal bowl, this recipe is for you. Now, let’s go ahead and dive into some quick things to note, as well as the list of ingredients you will need to make this blueberry vanilla microwave protein oatmeal.

How To Make Protein Oatmeal

Protein Oatmeal is surprisingly easy to make. It is essentially made exactly like traditional oatmeal, with a couple minor differences. First, you will have to choose a protein powder to mix in with your oats. Second, you will need extra liquid to account for the additional powder being added to the oatmeal.

As far as the cook time goes, it shouldn’t change much (if at all) as compared to traditional oatmeal. I usually cook my quick oats for 60 seconds, and even with the protein powder, my oatmeal is still done after just 90 seconds in the microwave. This might vary slightly depending on which oats and protein powder you decide to use.

For the liquid, I also wanted to note that you should add your water slowly. This is because different protein powders absorb water differently. If you choose to use a different protein powder than I did, you might need more or less water. You can always add additional water to thin your oatmeal out a bit, but you can’t take it away.

So, make sure to keep that in mind when you are making your protein oatmeal. Other than that, you should have no issues cooking up the perfect bowl of microwave protein oatmeal. Now, let’s take a look at the ingredients list for this recipe.

Microwave Blueberry Vanilla Protein Oatmeal – Ingredients

  • Quick Oats – The quick oats serve as the perfect base for this recipe. Quick cook oats are awesome because they get thick and creamy after just one or two minutes in the microwave. I love using quick oats in protein oatmeal recipes to achieve a super creamy texture.
  • Vegan Vanilla Protein Powder – The vanilla protein powder is the next ingredient you will need to make this protein oatmeal recipe. You can choose whichever protein powder you enjoy most or have on hand. I love the Orgain Simple creamy vanilla protein powder, so that’s the one I used in this recipe.
  • Frozen Wild Blueberries – The frozen wild blueberries add a ton of flavor and nutrients to this recipe. They are one of my favorite toppings for oatmeal in general, and this recipe is no exception. If you don’t have frozen wild blueberries, you can use regular blueberries (fresh or frozen will work).
  • Almond Butter – The almond butter adds a ton of flavor to this recipe as well as a source of healthy fat. You can easily substitute any other nut butter you prefer or have on hand.
  • Water – The water acts as the key source of liquid for this recipe. It is used to cook the oatmeal and make it super thick, fluffy, and creamy.
  • Pure Maple Syrup – The pure maple syrup will be drizzled on top to sweeten your oatmeal. You can adjust this ingredient to your own personal taste.
