Banana Chocolate Chip Muffins Recipe
Good morning everyone! I hope you all have had an amazing start to your day. I certainly have, as I started this morning off with a fresh, homemade chocolate chip banana muffin. I am so excited to finally share this recipe with all of you because it is simple, low in added sugar, and incredibly tasty. I adopted this banana muffin recipe from a simple banana mug cake recipe I was testing. This muffin recipe turned out so delicious that I knew I had to share it with you guys on the blog. These muffins are super sweet, moist, fluffy, and delicious! This recipe also requires just two overripe bananas, so if you don’t have a ton of overripe bananas on hand, you can still make this recipe.
All the other ingredients in these homemade vegan banana chocolate chip muffins are also super simple, so you likely have most of them in your refrigerator or pantry. Plus, the recipe is super budget friendly, and perfect for meal prep. Now, let’s take a look at all of the ingredients you will need to make this vegan banana chocolate chip muffins recipe.
Banana Chocolate Chip Muffins Recipe – Ingredients
- Overripe Bananas – This ingredient should come as no surprise. As I mentioned before, this recipe requires just two bananas. Since this recipe makes a small batch of muffins (six to be exact), there is plenty of sweetness and banana flavor to go around. These vegan muffins are packed with banana flavor and a ton of moisture in every bite.
- Oat Flour – The flour we will be using for this recipe is oat flour. It does a great job of absorbing all the liquid. It also helps ensure your muffins turn out super moist, fluffy, and delicious. On top of that, it is super easy to make oat flour in your blender in just a few seconds. You simply blend up some rolled oats until a fine oat flour forms. This is also a very budget friendly flour, which is another huge bonus.
- Mini Semi-Sweet Chocolate Chips – You will also need some chocolate chips for your muffins. I used the Enjoy Life brand mini semi-sweet chocolate chips for this recipe. They are my go-to because they taste amazing and they are dairy free.
- Cinnamon – The cinnamon adds some extra spice and flavor to these banana muffins. Bananas and cinnamon pair very well together, so it is a great addition to these muffins.
- Baking Powder – The baking powder serves as the key leavening agent for this recipe. It ensures your muffins turn out nice and fluffy, which is exactly what we want for these banana chocolate chip muffins.
- Nut Milk – The nut milk serves as the main source of liquid for this recipe. I used unsweetened vanilla almond milk, which adds a little bit of vanilla flavor as well as some extra creaminess.
- Creamy Peanut Butter – The peanut butter adds moisture, richness, and flavor to this recipe. It is important that you use a creamy, natural peanut butter for this recipe. If you use one with sugar and oil, it will be much thicker and harder to stir into the muffin batter. If your peanut butter is too thick, you could try microwaving it for a few seconds so that it is easier to stir into the muffin batter.
- Unsweetened Applesauce – The unsweetened applesauce adds a ton of moisture and natural sweetness to these chocolate chip banana muffins.
- Pure Maple Syrup – The pure maple syrup adds extra moisture, flavor, sweetness, and dimension to these banana muffins. It is the perfect finishing touch for this recipe.

Notes
As you guys can tell, this recipe is very easy to whip up in a pinch. You can easily meal prep a batch of these muffins to snack on throughout the entire week. I like to have these muffins for breakfast, as a midday snack, or for dessert. I keep them stored in the refrigerator in an airtight container. Then, whenever I’m in the mood for one, I just pop it in the microwave for a few seconds to warm it. I like to eat these muffins with an extra drizzle of peanut butter on top.
Anyway, that’s it for this post. I hope you guys enjoy these muffins just as much as I do, and I will be back with another recipe in just a few days!
