Peanut Butter Chocolate Chip Ice Cream

Good morning friends! Today, I am sharing a super simple and delicious ice cream recipe with all of you. As you all know, I absolutely love making banana ice cream, also known as “nice cream”. Now that the hot summer months are rapidly approaching, I thought that it would be the perfect time to share this cool and refreshing recipe.

If you have never heard of banana ice cream, it is essentially a super thick vegan ice cream made with a base of frozen bananas. The bananas are blended up with some other key ingredients to form a thick and creamy ice cream consistency. The vegan banana ice cream requires no churning, and it comes together in just a few minutes. All you need is a high speed food processor.

I pretty much always keep banana chunks in the freezer so that I can make my delicious banana ice cream whenever the craving hits. After you try this tasty treat, you might find yourself doing the same. Plus, you can easily double, triple, or quadruple the recipe to share with your family and friends. Now, let’s go through a few quick things to note for this recipe. Then, we will go ahead and take a look at the list of ingredients you will need to make this delicious nice cream recipe.

What Is Vegan Ice Cream Made Of?

The question of what vegan ice cream is made of doesn’t actually have a clear answer. This is because you can make vegan ice cream in a wide variety of ways. A few of the most common ingredients that are used to make vegan ice cream include coconut milk/cream, oat milk, and even almond milk. However, since I am using a no-churn method for this recipe, I opted for frozen banana chunks. Of course, if you don’t like the taste of bananas/banana ice cream, you can follow a coconut milk vegan ice cream recipe instead. This recipe, however, is a vegan banana ice cream recipe. Now that we have covered that, let’s go through all of the ingredients you will need to make this peanut butter chocolate chip banana ice cream.

Peanut Butter Chocolate Chip Ice Cream – Ingredients

  • Ripe Bananas – The first ingredient you will need for this recipe are the ripe/overripe bananas. You will want to peel and freeze your bananas in chunks. These will be used to form the bulk of the base for this creamy banana nice cream. You’ll want to use ripe or overripe bananas for optimal sweetness. If the peels are yellow with brown spots, then your bananas are ready to peel and freeze.
  • Non-Dairy Milk – The next ingredient you will need for this recipe is the source of liquid. You can use any non-dairy milk you prefer or have on hand. I used unsweetened vanilla almond milk. A little bit goes a long way with this ingredient. You will need just a splash to aid blending. Adding too much liquid thins down the consistency, which is exactly what we don’t want to happen.
  • Creamy Peanut Butter – Another ingredient you will want for this vegan ice cream recipe is the creamy peanut butter. This ingredient serves as one of the two key toppings for this nice cream. It adds a ton of flavor, richness, and a source of fat. Of course, you could sub another nut/seed butter if desired. I like to use natural peanut butter because it tends to be thinner and more drizzly. So, it is perfect to drizzle on top of this ice cream.
  • Vegan Semi-Sweet Chocolate Chips – The final ingredient you will need for this recipe are the vegan chocolate chips. The chocolate chips add sweetness, decadence, and rich chocolate flavor to this ice cream. The chocolate flavor also pairs perfectly with the nut butter. I used semi-sweet chocolate chips, but you can use whichever kind you enjoy most. If you prefer a little less sweetness, you could opt for dark chocolate chips instead of semi-sweet chocolate chips.
