Easy Dark Chocolate Protein Pancakes

Good morning friends! Today, I am presenting you with yet another vegan pancake recipe, but this one is dark chocolate flavored. These dark chocolate brownie protein pancakes are super simple and delicious. They are packed with protein and flavor.

I am someone who absolutely loves chocolate, especially when it’s combined with other flavors. However, years ago, I actually didn’t like chocolate bars or chocolate chips. I was always game for some chocolate cake, fudgy brownies, etc. But for some reason, I never craved straight chocolate.

Eventually, dark chocolate began to grow on me. Now, I truly do enjoy it. In fact, I love chocolate almost as much as I love peanut butter, and that is saying a lot. I guess my taste buds have evolved over the years, and I’m not mad about it.

Anyways, let’s go through some quick logistics for this tasty recipe, and then take a look at the list of ingredients you will need to make these dark chocolate protein pancakes.

How To Make Chocolate Protein Pancakes Without Oats

I quickly wanted to talk about how to make chocolate protein pancakes without oats since a lot of my pancake recipes do call for oat flour. For these protein pancakes, I used a combination of vegan protein powder and whole wheat flour, so there are no oats required.

The combination of protein powder and flour works perfectly in this recipe, and you end up with a nice stack of light, fluffy, and moist pancakes. Now, let’s take a look at the list of ingredients you will need for this recipe.

Easy Dark Chocolate Protein Pancakes – Ingredients

  • Whole Wheat Flour – The whole wheat flour is the first key ingredient you will need to make these chocolate protein pancakes. When I’m baking, I love to use whole wheat flour in combination with other flours.
  • Chocolate Protein Powder This ingredient is absolutely crucial. It helps create a rich chocolate flavor and it also packs in some serious protein. For this recipe, I used the Orgain Simple vegan protein powder in the chocolate peanut butter cup flavor. Orgain is one of my favorite brands to purchase vegan protein powder from. I’ve been using their vegan protein powders for years, and I highly recommend them.
  • Dark Chocolate Chips – You can’t have dark chocolate protein pancakes without the dark chocolate chips. The chips add a ton of flavor, sweetness, and they also melt right into the pancakes. They are a crucial ingredient that you definitely do not want to omit.
  • Baking Powder – The baking powder acts as the key leavening agent for this recipe to ensure your pancakes turn out light and fluffy.
  • Nut Milk – The nut milk is an essential ingredient which transforms your mixture into the perfect pancake batter. I used unsweetened vanilla almond milk, but you can use whichever nut milk you prefer or have on hand.
  • Unsweetened Applesauce – The unsweetened applesauce adds a bit of moisture and natural sweetness to your chocolate protein pancakes. It is an ingredient that I absolutely love to use when baking.
  • Pure Vanilla Extract – The pure vanilla extract helps to amplify all of the other flavors present in this recipe. It is quite expensive, so I try to use it sparingly. I do think that pure vanilla extract adds a little something extra to sweet recipes such as this one. However, you could probably omit it if you don’t have it on hand.
  • Creamy Peanut Butter – The creamy peanut butter is a topping that pairs really well with these chocolate protein pancakes. I highly recommend it. You could also sub another nut or seed butter that you prefer.
  • Fresh Fruit – The fresh fruit is an essential topping which adds additional sweetness to this recipe. I love pairing fresh banana slices or strawberries with these dark chocolate brownie protein pancakes.
  • Pure Maple Syrup – The pure maple syrup will be drizzled on top of your pancakes for extra sweetness. You can adjust this ingredient to your own taste.
