Dairy Free Peanut Butter Banana Smoothie

Good morning everyone! Today I am so excited to share a four ingredient smoothie recipe that I have been enjoying a lot recently. It is super refreshing and it cools me off after my hard workouts. It has a nice balance of carbohydrates and protein which I always try to incorporate into my post-workout meals and snacks.

I personally love to drink smoothies after working out, especially in the summer. I find them to be so tasty, cool, and refreshing on those hot summer days. Anyway, enough on that. Let’s go through a few quick things to note for this recipe. Then, we will take a look at all of the ingredients you will need to make this tasty vegan peanut butter banana smoothie.

How Do You Thicken a Banana Smoothie?

There are a few key methods I use to ensure my smoothies turn out nice and thick. My first trick is to use frozen fruit over fresh fruit. I find that the consistency turns out a lot thicker. Plus, frozen fruit helps keep your smoothie nice and cold. On top of that, I try to use a small amount of liquid. I use just enough to aid blending and thin the consistency enough to make the smoothie drinkable. The more liquid you add, the thinner your smoothie will turn out. I personally am a huge fan of thick smoothies. However, if you prefer your smoothies to be on the thinner side, you can easily add some extra non-dairy milk to your blender. Once you get your desired smoothie consistency, you can stop adding liquid and pour your smoothie into a glass to enjoy fresh and cold :).

Now that we have covered a few quick things to note for this recipe, let’s go through the list of ingredients you will need to make this vegan peanut butter banana smoothie recipe a smashing success.

Peanut Butter Banana Smoothie – Ingredients

  • Banana – The first ingredient you will need to make this delicious smoothie is the banana. After all, you can’t have a peanut butter banana smoothie without the key fruit source. For this recipe, you are going to need one medium banana that you have frozen in chunks. The two main reasons to use frozen banana chunks as opposed to a fresh banana are that the frozen chunks make your smoothie colder and thicker/creamier. Also, make sure to freeze your banana when it’s nice ripe for optimal flavor and sweetness.
  • Non-Dairy Milk – The non-dairy milk is the second key ingredient you will want for this recipe. This ingredient acts as the main source of liquid to ensure your smoothie achieves a smooth and creamy consistency. I used unsweetened vanilla almond milk for this recipe, but you can use whichever non-dairy milk you have on hand or prefer.
  • Peanut Butter – The third ingredient you will need for this recipe is the peanut butter. This ingredient should come as no surprise. As you guys know, peanut butter is one of my all-time favorite foods. It adds a ton of richness, flavor, and creaminess to this smoothie. I like to use a creamy natural peanut butter. The natural kind tends to be more drizzly, so it blends into the smoothie more easily. Of course, you could always substitute another nut or seed butter, such as almond butter, if you prefer.
  • Powdered Peanut Butter – The final ingredient you will need to make this peanut butter banana smoothie is the powdered peanut butter (also called peanut flour). The powdered peanut butter adds even more sweetness, flavor, and some protein to the smoothie. Two tablespoons of peanut flour supplies an extra seven – eight grams of protein to this smoothie. I really love the extra protein and flavor that this ingredient provides the smoothie with, and I think you will too!
