Easy Oven Baked Sweet Potato Fries
Happy fourth of July everyone! I hope you all are having a safe and fun day. I don’t know about you guys, but my family loves to cook up a bunch of tasty snacks to enjoy together on various holidays. Since I am home with my family this fourth of July, we collectively decided to celebrate with some yummy vegan dishes.
At first, I wasn’t sure which dish I wanted to contribute. After thinking it over for a little while, I decided to make some delicious sweet potato fries that are baked in the oven. This is one of my tried and true easy snack recipes. The fries require no oil, and there is very little prep work. This recipe is insanely easy, and the baking process brings out the most amazing flavor in the sweet potatoes.
Now, let’s go over some quick things to note for this recipe. Then, we will go through the list of ingredients you will need to make these easy baked sweet potato fries.
Are Sweet Potatoes Good For Fries?
In my opinion, sweet potatoes are absolutely perfect for transforming into fries. They have a sweeter flavor than traditional potatoes when baked (hence the name). I really enjoy homemade oven baked French fries that are made with potatoes. However, I also love to switch things up occasionally and make thick cut sweet potato fries. That’s when the recipe I am sharing with all of you today comes in super handy. These sweet potato fries taste especially delicious served up with some ketchup or a black bean veggie burger.
If you want the fries to turn out soft, you can put them in the oven after washing them, patting them dry, and cutting them into thick matchsticks. If you want your fries crispier, you will want to cut them a lot thinner, get rid of all excess moisture before baking them in the oven, and drizzle them with a bit of olive oil. Additionally, make sure to space them out so that they are less likely to steam while they bake in the oven. If you do choose to make thinner, crispier fries, make sure to keep an eye on them while they bake. They tend to cook faster when they are cut thinner, and you don’t want your fries to end up burnt. I actually prefer my sweet potato fries soft, so I usually cut them really thick.
Easy Oven Baked Sweet Potato Fries – Ingredients
- Sweet Potatoes – The sweet potatoes are the first key ingredient you will need for this recipe. This should come as no surprise. You can either bake your sweet potato fries with the skin intact, or peel the sweet potatoes before cutting them if you prefer.

- Garlic Powder – The garlic powder also adds a ton of flavor to the fries.

Notes
As you can tell, this recipe is incredibly simple. Whether or not you choose to use oilve oil is entirely up to you. I personally like drizzling my fries in a bit of olive oil, as I find that the oil adds flavor and richness to the fries. However, you can omit the oil from this recipe if you prefer.
The first crucial step to making your perfect sweet potato fries is to choose your desired texture – soft or crispy. If you want your fries crispier, there are a number of important steps you have to follow to make sure they don’t steam in the oven (like spacing them well, cutting them thinly, drizzling on olive oil, and ensuring your fries don’t have excess moisture when they are placed in the oven). If you pay attention to the details, you’ll end up with really tasty sweet potato fries every single time. Anyways, that’s it for this recipe. As per usual, I will be back with another blog post very soon.
