Vegan Plum Crumble With Oats

Good morning friends! Today, I am so excited to share my simple, sweet, and delicious plum crumble recipe. This recipe is perfect for summer since plums are in-season right now. It came to fruition because I had a ton of plums sitting in my refrigerator this past week, and I was trying to think of new ways to use them.

I have made vegan peach crumble and cobbler too many times to count, and I figured plum crumble would be just as tasty. So, I tested a few different variations, and I came up with the perfect single serve plum crumbles that you can bake in ramekins, top with vegan ice cream or vegan whipped cream, and enjoy.

Now, let’s go over a few quick things to note for this recipe. Then, we will dive into the list of ingredients you will need to make this plum crumble recipe a smashing success.

What Is Fruit Crumble Made Of?

Vegan fruit crumble is made of a few key ingredients – oats, oat flour, cinnamon, pure maple syrup, non-dairy milk, and your fruit of choice. Of course, you can also add a bit of vegan butter to the crumble, but that ingredient is optional.

I have made a wide variety of vegan fruit crumbles, including apple, peach, blueberry, and more. This plum crumble is my new favorite, and it’s perfect for the summertime since peaches and plums are in-season. So, they taste extra sweet and are much cheaper to purchase during this time of year.

How Do You Make Plum Crumble?

Plum crumble is made much like any other fruit crumble. It shares all of the same crumble ingredients. The only difference is that you use plums for the base rather than apples, peaches, etc. Then, the steps to bringing everything together are simple. You just add the chopped fruit to the base of your baking dish, and then place the crumble right on top of the fruit. It really is that easy.

Once the plum crumble is done baking, you can add whatever toppings you would like. I enjoy a scoop of vegan vanilla ice cream or some vegan whipped cream on top of my plum crumble.

Now that we have covered a few quick things to note for this recipe, let’s take a look at the list of ingredients you will need to make this delicious plum crumble.

Vegan Plum Crumble With Oats – Ingredients

  • Fresh Plums – The first ingredient that you will need for this fresh fruit crumble is, of course, the ripe plums. The plums act as the star of the show for this recipe. You will be chopping them finely and using them as the base for your crumble.
  • Oat Flour – The oat flour pairs perfectly with the rolled oats to form the bulk of the dry ingredients for this crumble. I made my own oat flour by blending up some rolled oats in a blender for about 10 seconds.
  • Rolled Oats – The rolled oats combine with the oat flour to form the perfect oat crumble texture. If you want to make this recipe gluten free, make sure to use your favorite gluten free oats.
  • Cinnamon – The cinnamon adds a bit of spice and extra dimension to your plum crumble. It is the perfect little spice to include in your crumble topping.
  • Pure Maple Syrup – The pure maple syrup adds a ton of sweetness and flavor to the crumble topping. It is the main source of sweetness for this recipe (aside from the plums, of course).
  • Non-Dairy Milk – The non-dairy milk adds additional moisture to the crumble topping. I used unsweetened vanilla almond milk, but you can use whichever non-dairy milk you prefer or have on hand.
  • Vegan Vanilla Ice Cream / Vegan Whipped Cream – This ingredient is optional, but I highly recommend it. The flavor and texture of vegan vanilla ice cream or vegan whipped cream pairs perfectly with the plum crumble. Plus, the ice cream melts right into the warm crumble. It truly is the perfect flavor combination. I topped my plum crumble with vegan vanilla coconut milk ice cream.

I hope you all enjoy this simple, sweet, and delicious plum crumble recipe. I can’t wait for you guys to try it! You can make the plum crumble in single serve ramekins like I did. Or, you can bake it in a larger square dish until the crumble topping is firm (it will take a bit longer to bake than the single-serve ramekins). Anyway, that’s it for this recipe. As per usual, I will be back with another blog post very soon.
