Soft Baked Cinnamon Sugar Apple Slices
Good morning friends! Today, I am so excited to share a brand new fall recipe with all of you. This is one of my favorite easy snacks to enjoy during the autumn months when apples are in season. The recipe requires less than ten simple ingredients, and it is easy to prep in big batches to enjoy with friends or as a snack throughout the week.
The recipe I’m referring to is cinnamon sugar coated apple slices. These apple slices are coated in cinnamon sugar for optimal sweetness and fall spice. I think you guys are really going to love them. So, let’s take a quick look at a few things to note for this recipe. Then, we will dive into the list of ingredients you will need to make this recipe a smashing success.
What Is the Best Method For Cooking Apples?
There are many different ways that you can cook apples to soften them. The first method, which I am using for this recipe, involves baking your apples at high heat in the oven until soft. Alternatively, you could bake your apples in the air fryer. Or, you could heat them on the stovetop in a bit of melted coconut oil or vegan butter to achieve a caramelized apple effect.
One of my personal favorite ways to bake apples is to throw them in the oven at high heat until soft. I find that you can use minimal oil while still achieving a soft texture and super sweet taste. Plus, the apples are ready to enjoy in less than 30 minutes. So, if you’re looking for an easy way to bake apples to perfection, the oven baked method might be for you. The air fryer method is even faster, but since many people don’t own one, I wanted to utilize the oven.
Should I Peel Apples Before Roasting Them?
While some people do prefer to peel their apples before they coat them in the cinnamon sugar and pop them in the oven to bake, I personally like to leave the peel on. I think it adds a beautiful pop of red color and I don’t mind the texture. Of course, you can easily take a few extra minutes to peel your apples before slicing them up if you’d like. It’s really up to your own personal preferences.
How long does it take to soften apples?
The length of time it takes to soften your apples can vary immensely depending on the size of the apple slices, the temperature at which you are baking them, and how soft you’d like them to be. That’s why I recommend you start checking the slices after about 15 minutes. If you take a look every five minutes or so, you can easily pull them out when they have reached the desired texture. If you decide to bake your apples whole (minus the core), they will probably take quite a bit longer.
Now that we’ve covered a few things to note for this recipe, let’s dive into the list of ingredients you will need to make these cinnamon sugar baked apple slices.
Soft Baked Cinnamon Sugar Apple Slices – Ingredients
- Honey Crisp Apples – The first essential ingredient you will need for this recipe are the apples. I really like to use honey crisp apples. I find that the flavor of these apples pairs really well with the cinnamon sugar coating. However, you can use whichever kind of apples you prefer.
- Cinnamon – The cinnamon adds a ton of flavor and spice to this baked apples recipe.
- Sugar – The sugar provides the apples with a bit of extra sweetness in this recipe.
- Melted Coconut Oil – The melted coconut oil serves as the key liquid used in this recipe. It helps the apple slices soften and turn golden brown. It also ensures that the cinnamon sugar coating sticks to the apple slices. Depending on how warm it is where you live currently, the coconut oil could be in a solid or liquid state. If it is solid, simply place a scoop into a microwave safe dish and microwave it for about 30 seconds until it is completely melted. Then, measure out the amount of coconut oil you need for this recipe after it is fully melted.
